Bridge is in great condition, has a dedicated spot on the inside to write a message (bring a marker).

There are six bridges in the area.

Historical bridges romanticized by the book, and the movie, The Bridges of Madison County. The Chamber of Commerce has maps for directions to each of the bridges, of which only one remains in use. One bridge, scene of the iconic love note left by Meryl Streep for Clint Eastwood, has a notebook inside for lovers to do the same.
Watching the movie before finding the sites can enhance your visit.
[Andrea Rymill, 10/20/2014]Being a romatic, I had always wanted to see the filming location of my favorite movie, "The Bridges of Madison County," starring Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep.
Winterset is like taking a step back into time. All of the store fronts look like something out of the '60s. Visited the Northside Cafe and sat on the stool that Clint Eastwood sat on. Visited the two bridges used for the movie: the Roseman and the Holliwell. Rode past the house that Francesca lived (Meryl Streep) but could not get close to it. There was a posting saying that it was protected by an electrical fence. Too bad, since this house was the major backbone of the movie.
This town made me get a little teary eyed. Loved it!

These are the historic and famous covered bridges of Madison County. There are six bridges in all, dating as far back as 1870, including the Roseman Bridge, made famous by the movie. There is a bit of driving in between, but the Madison County website offers an excellent map at www.madisoncounty.com/bridge.html
