Caryville, Tennessee: Big Green Dragon

Since the 1980s a hand-built, very large, colorful green dragon with tiny wings had advertised an adjacent fireworks store. In May 2011 the store burned up, but the dragon has survived.

Best to look for the Dollar General and park there.

Don't follow the address on GPS -- get off at exit 134, turn into the Dollar Store. It's behind that. There are weeds and tall grass around it now, but kids still enjoyed seeing it up close.

Behind Dollar General. Wear pants -- the statue is surrounded by poison oak!

I've been admiring this dragon from the interstate for thirty years or so and decided that, for Mother's Day, I wanted to get up close. I'm glad I did after reading on Roadside America that he's for sale. He's massive and so fun; I'll miss him if he flies away.

There is now a Dollar Store between the Dragon and the access road, but that doesn't prevent anyone from driving behind the store for that picture moment. Traveling northbound on I-75 you'll see the dragon in time to make the exit.
