I think I first heard the crazy sounds under the street about 20-22 years ago. Definitely a fun spot that catches people off guard. From lions roaring to trains, it's a fun touch to the city.
[Jenn, 05/27/2019]They work. But the sounds are timed. Ocean waves. Engines. Cows-pigs! Subway cars! be patient and listen. Very cool. On Curtis between 15-16, opposite Sam 3.

[Scott Morabito, 08/25/2010]The Soundwalk aural installation is a series of ventilation grates issuing recorded sounds from below the street. Considering the usual fate of any continuous public powered performance, three still operating ain't bad!

Glad to hear it! This is one of those attractions where visitors risk arriving when it is awaiting repair/restart, or it may have "quiet" hours. And someday the surface populace will grow weary of subterranean chickens.
