A recently-opened wing of contemporary art glass works is worth a visit for the architecture alone. The works it houses are stunning. There are two hot glass demonstration theaters where, should you choose to, you can sit directly above artisans as they twirl semi-molten glass on blowpipes. Other wings house a history of glass from ancient times to the present and another wing presents an enormous collection of smaller contemporary art pieces. You could spend days exploring this museum.

Failed 200-inch Telescope Mirror
The first casting of the 200-inch Hale Telescope mirror for the Palomar Observatory was a 20-ton dud. However, the second casting turned out OK, so I suppose that prevents this from being an epic fail. The failed first casting can be found at the Corning Museum of Glass; it is essentially a very large Pyrex (R) casserole dish.
