There was a sign on I-82, but when I got off the exit I didn't know where to go to find it. Follow the road to Zillah -- it's close to the cemetery.

Teapot Dome Gas Station - Moving

The Yakima Herald has reported that the famous Teapot Dome gas station in Zillah, Washington is being readied to be moved from its present location alongside Interstate highway 82 to the town's Civic Center. The $390,000 projects funding was approved by the City Council, and with it the restoration of the teapot-shaped station into a visitors center for tourists is now moving forward. Thanks in large part to local residents and preservationists who partnered with the city of Zillah and rallied for several years to save the station, this unique bit of roadside Americana will be there for future generations of visitors to enjoy. Plans call for the project to be completed in May of 2012.

In an article in this week's Yakima Herald, Zillah got a grant to fund the move of the Teapot Dome Gas Station from the highway, where it is currently located, to a park setting next to the senior center in town.

No schedule yet on when this will start.

A little worse for wear but with no major vandalism or damage and still in its original spot. Pumps still show the amounts of their last purchases. Kinda sad. Hopefully someone will move it into town soon.
