The Indian Monuments at the museum south of Tawas City, on Hwy 23, were sculpted by my grandmother Grace Mae (Brewer) Smith of Kent City, probably in the 1960s. Does anyone know where they stand now? Someone mentioned a casino? I would love to track them down.
[Noreen Kruzich, 01/12/2010]The report that the Indian monument/museum/gift shop was still standing in 2007 is inaccurate. We stopped in and found a MUCH smaller statue of an Indian on a horse, and a gift shop full of moccasins and earrings. The owner told us that the previous owner who had the museum and monuments had to sell the Giant Indian statues to a casino in 1994. We were really bummed that there was no flying Jackalope! But onward...

Well that's not exactly what this monument is saying, but we're not really sure what it means. This is a file photo from a long ago trip (the Flying Skull of Geronimo was our traveling companion).
We heard from Tawas City that the statue is still there, as is the Indian Museum behind it -- rumored to contain a flying jackalope.
