A Route 66 trading post claimed to have a Route 66 map longer than any other. The trading post closed in 2012 and the map fell into ruin. In 2025 the trading post reopened - with dinosaurs.

Meteor City Trading Post is completely defunct now. Not even the map is standing. We cruised by on a Monday morning and were disappointed to see the map in complete disrepair.

Meteor City Trading Post has closed. The World's Longest Map of Route 66 is falling apart. Stopped by last week; you can still drive up to it.
[David Kamada, 04/02/2013]The Trading Post opened in 1938 and was put up for sale in September 2012. The map was painted by a hotel chain in 2002 as a publicity stunt; the big Save-a-Landmark branding was never intended to be ironic.
The dome has been repainted and no longer says "Meteor City" on the side.
[Dominique, 06/12/2012]An ominous trend -- faux-Native American souvenir shops obliterating their space age flourishes. But happy to see they left the petrified logs painted on the dome...
Not a bad pit stop, although prices are high. Didn't see a mural, but there is a nice RV park now. There is also a place to get fast-food -- Mexican. This is nice since there is pretty much nothing once you leave Flagstaff.
