Incredibly disappointing!

A bit underwhelming to say the least.

"Highpointers" are people who like to visit geographic high points, such as those of individual states. Although the highest point in Rhode Island -- Jerimoth Hill -- is a mere 812 feet above the sea, it was for years considered the most difficult to visit, a far greater challenge than even Mt. McKinley in Alaska. This was because the man who owned the only access to Jerimoth Hill -- his driveway -- was, frankly, sick of all the highpointers. Signs were posted, motion sensors were installed, threats were issued, violence was reportedly used. U.S. highpointers seemed doomed to forever have an empty check-box next to Rhode Island.
There is a "Jerimoth Hill: State's Highest Point" sign out on the road, but this is not the actual highest point, and therefore unacceptable to dedicated highpointers.
Happily, the property was sold to a more understanding owner in 2005. A path to the highest point -- a small rock outcrop -- has been created. Although it is still private property, it is now open on weekends from 8 to 3.
