Be sure to ask the attendant to play the wax cylinder recording in the Edison section. You've never heard anything like it.
[LiveWorkDream, 06/07/2019]My friend and I originally road-tripped to the Carbon County Museum in Rawlins to see Big Nose George, who was turned into a pair of shoes. This museum is a lot more than just the shoes. It has lots of Old West history, Rawlins history, and even Thomas Edison collectibles (He got his idea for the light bulb on a trip to the area). It's a pretty cool place, and I highly recommend if you need to kill time in Rawlins!

Went mainly to read about the history of Big Nose George. The older gentlemen working there told me lots of neat stories about everything and anything I wanted to know about. He told me all about poor Big Nose George. Saw the shoes made out of George's skin and his death mask. That was pretty spectacular.
I also enjoyed the large, ornate safe that had an equally interesting story. If this gentlemen hadn't been so excited about pointing out neat artifacts, I would have probably walked right past the safe. You could tell by the way he spoke that he really loved telling the stories. I could have listened to him for days.

We enjoyed the museum's range of quirky offerings, but the shoes are a one-in-a-million exhibit. Hope you had a chance to see the odd Edison Mural while you were in town.
