The museum the horse resides by has exhibits covering the history of Swedish settlers in southeast Iowa, along with a nice assortment of gift items. Plus, you can find out the significance of both the Dala Horse and nearby straw goat. The museum itself is in a building on The National Historic Register.

Yeah, the goat appears to be long gone. But there's a giant Swedish horse around the corner, so it's not a total waste of a trip, even if you're there on a Sunday/Wednesday when the museum is closed.
