Tombstone, Arizona: Big Nose Kate's Saloon

An irreverent sign over the urinal conveys Big Nose Kate's appropriate Wild West attitude. Kate was Tombstone's first brothel Madame.

You guys forgot the sign.

"The ice in this bathroom is hardly ever used in the making of our drinks." Reassuring.

If you're in Tombstone you enjoy history and the Old West. Go to this bar! Big Nose Kate, for gawd's sake! I'm currently listening to two old guys playing tremendous guitar and violin while enjoying whiskey, beer, and a grilled chicken sandwich.

We've been to Tombstone several times and and I agree with what you say. The Historama is excellent. When at Big Nose Kate's Saloon, check out the men's room. The urinal is about 4 feet long and it's filled with ice. Above it is this sign.

Incidently, Big Nose Kate's real name was Mary Katherine Haroney Cummings. She was born in Budapest, Hungary and immigrated to Iowa in 1865. She was the part-time girlfriend of Doc Holliday. She worked as a prostitute for Bessie Earp in Wichita Ks., a dance hall girl in Dodge City Ks and she ran the first brothel in Tombstone Az. She is buried in Prescott Az.

[Joe Boulter, 05/04/2007]

As jaded travelers, we've seen iced urinals before, though not accompanied by such a thoughtful sign.
