Fresno, California: Boy and the Boot
The Boy with the Leaking Boot arrived in Fresno as a public drinking fountain, purchased by the Salvation Army so that children would not be tempted to enter saloons for a drink of water. The current Boy, cast in 1947, is a copy of the 1895 original.

Boy with the leaking boot is located in a courtyard at 2220 Tulare St.
[Joe Boulter, 03/12/2009]The Boy with the Leaking Boot fountain was erected in 1895, and paid for largely by public subscription and donations, with the city kicking in $500. It stood in that location, but was moved in 1921.
Ensuing vandalism resulted in the statue being stored a few years later, but in 1947 it was recast in bronze by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. It was re-erected in a different location, and in 1954 it was moved again. Vandals struck again, and in 1969 the statue was back in storage.
In 1997 it was again restored, and placed in the Fresno County Plaza, in a place it will likely be safer and able to stay for the foreseeable future.
