I just drove it. Boise City to Guymon. Road is very straight. And in spots, if you look left or right, you cannot see any structures. Just a straight horizontal horizon. Like a good horizon should be.
[G Kennedy, 04/13/2016]The longest straight road in the United States isn't the famous Route 46 in North Dakota (the longest straight section of which runs for just over 27 miles). There are two separate sections of the same highway in the Oklahoma Panhandle which surpass Route 46's length by a substantial margin. From Boise City to just west of Guymon, Highway 412 runs razor's-edge straight for 47.7 miles. And as if that wasn't enough, when Highway 412 resumes its straight and narrow ways 24 miles to the east, it proceeds to run perfectly straight through the farmlands of western Oklahoma from Hardesty to just east of Slapout for another 65.5 miles. I virtually eyeballed the entire route via Google Earth to confirm the road was as straight as it initially appeared. It was; not a single deviation from the center line on either section to be found. So, unless someone locates a longer perfectly straight road, I believe the 65.5 mile section of Oklahoma's US Highway 412 should be named the Longest Straight Road in the United States.
[Tom Guthrie, 01/03/2013]In Guymon I got on Hwy 64/412 and headed West and was quickly blown away about my ability to see the road going on, for as far as I could see, as a perfectly straight line! Shortly after arriving in San Diego I looked at a map to see how long the road stayed straight and it looked like just a bit longer than 50 miles!
I used Google Maps to scan my way down Highway 64/412 to see if it was in fact a straight line with no jogs to miss a farmhouse or stock pond - it is like an arrow! I've been on a lot of roads that seemed to go on forever in a straight line (New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, and desert California) but can't recall ever driving for close to an hour with nary a twitch of the steering wheel.
[John Shea, 05/08/2007]The "straightest road" title is difficult to acquire -- even the slightest bend is a disqualifier. First-hand accounts like these, however, are impressive. Oklahoma, why don't you promote this road?

We received an earlier tip from someone who had actually driven the western leg of Oklahoma Hwy 64/412 and confirmed its straight-as-an-arrowness. North Dakota used to promote the entire length of its Hwy 46 as the longest, straightest road (123 miles), but we drove it and found that its longest perfectly straight stretch was around 31 miles.
