Petersburg, Kentucky: Creation Museum

Lavish attraction devoted to explaining the difference between Man's Reason and God's Word. Dinosaurs, scripture, science and morality, stirred vigorously.

After reading some other reviews I was shocked at the negativity and untruths. So let me set the record straight: My family of four attended on a Saturday. Parking was no charge and friendly parking attendants helped show where empty parking was available. Young children 5 and under are always free, but my 11 year old was also free. Up to 4 children are free with the purchase of 2 adults. We were told by a friend not to miss the Planetarium's Cosmic Show and purchased those extra for less than $4. We pictures made upon arriving and purchased those with the copyright for 5 photos for $20.

We started with the self-guided walk-through of the museum, which explained how science and the bible mesh. The focus was not how others are wrong, but how to understand how Noah's flood fit into history. There was interactive technology for adults and children teaching us all along the way. The museum tour was not all religious. There was a bug exhibit that had many species to look at, with an interactive part with an animatronic scientist teaching about bugs.

There were many dinosaurs, one that was found in Colorado in the last 5 years. There were exhibits from the bible of Adam and Eve, Noah with the ark and several more. The ark exhibit had many animatronics and interactive parts -- it was like being in the ark. There was an exhibit on the history of the bible and origins too; short presentations to sit and watch on the First Six Days, the Tower of Babel and more. In the Special Effects Theater, the chairs have special movement and a surprising effect with water! The planetarium show was about our solar system, based only on science facts, and was amazing! The chairs recline, with the unique presentation being on the ceiling.

We toured at our leisure. There was no one "pushing" us through.

Outside was a very nice paved trail through the garden with neat bridges, waterfalls, arbors and many garden features. Outside was a "mining and panning for gold" experience. There was the petting zoo with 25 cent feed to get more interaction with the animals. Camel rides too! Neatest were the zip lines above and those "team building" courses. We really enjoyed our trip. The place is clean, staff were friendly and helpful, informative and insightful.

In your article, you ask if the Creation Museum is fun. Our answer is - NO! We attended with a friend who has a daughter that was about 7 at the time. My friend was genuinely annoyed that there was nothing for her daughter to experience or do at the museum. She was expecting something like Cincinnati's excellent Children's Museum, but there were no interactive displays or any other displays oriented for children. She complained to the staff that the museum had some nerve charging younger children admission but offering them nothing interesting or interactive!

Biggest Creation Museum Opens

The new Answers In Genesis Creation Museum is the biggest of its breed, and the most lavish in the world. Its cost -- $27 million -- dwarfs all earlier, comparatively modest attempts to refute evolution via a tourist attraction.
