The Jayne Mansfield crash site is approximately one mile west of the new Rigolets bridge on Hwy 90 near Slidell. It's now marked by three white crosses. This new memorial is very nice. It honors Jayne Mansfield, Ronne Harrison, and Sam Brody, the three people who died here on June 29, 1967 at 2:25 A.M.
The old crash site marker, in the wrong place, has been taken down.
[John Wayne Baxter, 03/16/2019]John Stringer Case, a native of Slidell, Louisiana, has written us to correct errors in our reporting of the 1967 death of Jayne Mansfield (Slidell is where she died). "I have a copy of the police report," John writes, "and have viewed hundreds of pages of civil court documents."
John's most shocking fact is that Jayne did not die at the spot marked by her roadside RIP monument. "It is in error by several miles," John writes. The misplacement of the monument may be because the crash was rumored to have happened at a spot in the highway known as Dead Man's Curve, which is near where the monument stands. But according to John, the police report marks the spot at 2.1 miles west of the Fort Pike Rigolets bridge, or six miles from the White Kitchen parking lot (both of which still exist). "I know the spot within 500 feet," writes John, and it's nowhere near the current monument. "This is also the parish line separating St. Tammany and Orleans Parish," John adds. "Technically she got killed in New Orleans, but it was closer to Slidell."

The Death Site is actually on the other side of the bridge, a few miles going westbound on 90. When you see the zone 2 sign you are almost there. It's on the right.
