- West of town in a stand of pine trees on a hillside. Drive west of town on US 550, then take the first right onto an unmarked gravel road. Drive three-quarters of a mile to the statue.

Christ of the Mines
You can drive right up to the bottom of the Christ of the Mines shrine. It's a very short hike to the statue but it would be a good idea to wear real shoes, not flip flops, for the hike.

There is a glass-topped box on which you can leave written notes/prayers at the Christ of the Mines monument. The location gives a great view of the town below. When I was there it was super quiet, a nice stop for a moment of peace and reflection.
[deb, 07/11/2010]There is a white stone statue of Christ, overlooking the town of Silverton, Colorado. It's quite a large statue and stands in a grove of pine trees.
In the town of Silverton there are lots of tourist shops, and old buildings. Usually there is a gunfight about noon (Not to worry, it's staged).
