Fairbanks, Alaska: SS Nenana: Big Riverboat on Dry Land

Five-deck steam-powered wooden sternwheeler, the largest built west of the Mississippi River. A ditch was dug, the boat was floated here in 1967, and it's been here ever since.

Pioneer Park. Turn north off of Airport Way at Wilbur St., immediately turn left onto Bartlett Ave., the drive a quarter-mile to the park entrance on the right.

Pioneer Park - Ship and Fur Fish

In Fairbanks there is a park with a bunch of odd things. One is the ship, the "Nenana" (lower right), that helped to found this town; another is a fur covered fish.
