A skinny mini-castle built on a hilltop by the richest man in town as an odd tribute to a family friend.

Overlooked in your review is the fact that generations of Worcester youth consummated adolescent romances -- me included -- in the back seats of cars parked at the foot of Bancroft Tower -- second only to the tiny Worcester airport as a local lovers' lane.

I went to visit the Bancroft Tower, and used a drone to capture a perspective view in HD of this amazing castle-like structure.
[Porcha, 08/18/2016]This is a small but very unique castle structure with a touching history. It was erected by Stephen Salisbury III in recognition of his father's best friend, George Bancroft, in 1900. Bancroft was born in Worcester and had a long list of accomplishments, from cultivating the American Beauty Rose to founding the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis. Atop one of the many hills of Worcester, the tower provides a stunning view of the city, as well as a sense of romance and adventure. My husband and I found our first geocache here [completely by accident], having made it one of our very first roadside trips when we moved to the city.

Also known as Bancroft's Folly, it's not a full castle, and not a ruin. It's a tall, narrow stone structure, somewhat comical looking.
