Took a walk on the snowy cart path here at Fossil Trace to get a picture of the out-of-place incinerator. Not a golfer in sight! So today it was OK to walk up to the chimney... On busy days one should stick to the path.

Miniature golf courses are used to having novel obstacles, but Golden's life-size Fossil Trace golf course features its own -- a tall stone chimney right in the middle of the first hole fairway. This was originally an incinerator built around the 1930s when the land belonged to the state boys prison next door, and architect Jim Engh made it part of the golf course in 2001. Today it incinerates golf balls if you don't shoot well.
The rest of the course has other unusual features such as playing through old clay mines and a nearby walk where you can see real dinosaur fossils.
