- Directions:
- I-135 exit 31. Drive west on E. 1st St. for two miles. You'll see Athletic Park on the right. Turn right on Grandview Ave., then make a quick right on 2nd St. into the Park, then a right onto Athletic Park Drive. Circle the Park, and the statue will be on the left side at the north end of the Park as the road curves to the left.

Social realism-style statue, and possibly the last WPA art project, completed just before Pearl Harbor in 1941. Cleaned in 2022.

Who knew that Mennonites lived in Russia... It made me research them. Yes, they immigrated to Russia, but then they were basically run out or persecuted.

Statue is a bit dirty but very cool photo op. The park it's located in is a perfect spot to play and eat, very shaded. They also have a nice outdoor pool. Worth the drive assuming you are driving through Newton.
