Pink Elephant
He is still there. We stumbled upon him on Memorial Day Weekend. Unfortunately it is in need of a good paint job. The gas station attendant didn't seem to care about it at all, and seemed rather annoyed by people's interest.

I am glad to see others in as much love with this elephant as I am. I grew up in Dane county but traveled north at least once a month my entire life. Seeing the elephant meant an exciting weekend ahead, or that we were almost home. When I got married this summer, we had our reception at the new hotel right by the elephant, and I knew we had to stop for pictures. I don't know if anyone else has done it, but this is our favorite picture from the wedding.

The Pink Elephant is still there. Shamefully, there is much graffiti on the Elephant now, on its glasses, on its backside... drawings of things that may not be the best for kids to see and lots of foul language written on it. There were still a lot of people there to take pics with it. It's visible off the roadway.
[Lynn Van Hoose, 06/01/2007]The pink elephant is still standing. The gas station where the elephant is located sells Pink Elephant hats, t-shirts, stickers, key chains and magnets. While you're there you might as well as kill two birds with one stone. If you make a right out of the parking lot of the Pink Elephant and drive about a quarter of a mile, you'll see the other DeForest attraction...Sissy the Cow. She's on your right kiddie corner to a Culver's Restaurant.

We talked to an older gentleman working in the gas station about the elephant. He said originally there was a chain of gas stations in the area, all with pink elephants. His elephant is the last one left. There's an artist who takes pictures of naked people in public, usually huge group shots, in famous locations. He recently had a special aired on HBO. The artist took pictures of a naked girl with the pink elephant and it was apparently on this HBO special. The gas station also sells stickers with the pink elephant on it for a quarter apiece.
