Big Sweep: Dust Pan and Broom Sculpture

Another masterful attraction by sculptor Claes Oldenburg. What makes this one extra special is the accompanying plaque that lists what is and isn't appropriate behavior around a giant broom and dustpan. The don'ts include: touching, climbing on, and/or caressing the broom. The dos include chatting about cleaning products and blaming the broom for the degradation of contemporary morals. Can you do what you want with the dustpan? I wouldn't risk it.

The 35-ft. tall metal sculpture, entitled "Big Sweep," is the work of -- who else? -- Cossje van Bruggen and Claes Oldenburg, of Big Stamp and Big Other Things fame. Commissioned by the museum, completed in 2004, and installed in 2006.
