- Cape Spear National Historic Park. From St. John's, travel west on Water Street to Leslie Street. Turn left at the lights and go over the bridge, to the stop sign. Go straight through the intersection and continue for 15 km - you are now on Route 11, also known as Cape Spear Drive. At the end of the road is Cape Spear National Historic Site of Canada.

When I was in St. John's this September, a friend suggested we see Cape Spear National Historic Park, a short drive from St. John's and the most easterly point in North America.
Once you arrive at this historic location, you will find WWII cannons that were installed by the United States military still in their containments, plus tunnels that troops dug into the side of the hill that contain mysterious doors (that can't be opened).
There are two lighthouses on the Cape, one that is still operating and a restored 1839 one that you can pay to visit. We chose not to part with our money and simply enjoy the great views.
