Netcong, New Jersey: Wild West City
As far east as The Wild West has ever gone. Features daily Main Street gun battles in the summer. Open since 1957. Out by the highway is a large, weather-worn plywood cowpoke on a bucking bronco; an unexpected sight in New Jersey.

What a great place! Reminds me of the now defunct Frontier Town in Hudson, New York. Stage coach Robbers try to take stuff from kids who aren't afraid of them, and gunfights still run rampant throughout the day. There a real bar and an old couple come out on stage and play country western music for about a half hour. They have been doing that for years and its totally great! The atmosphere is total Americana cheese with a little horse dung and dust thrown in. Go see it quick cause its one of the dying breed of great old sites that are quickly fading into the past.
[John Pfeiffer, 01/11/2003]As an update to the song tip, those of you paying attention know the cowboy singing the theme song was none other than NJ tv icon Uncle Floyd. His obscure cable show during the early 80's was a classic, featuring Looney Skip Rooney, Oogie the Puppet, and Floyd himself singing forgotten songs from the 30s and 40s. Pee Wee Herman must have been a fan because he couldn't have done the Playhouse without the inspiration of Uncle Floyd.
[Jim Turp, 04/30/2001]Back in the late 70s/early 80s, there was a TV commercial for wild west city. I still remember the song...
[Tom Christmann, 01/27/2001]Come to Wild West City.
A City runnin' Wild
Come to Wild West City
Bring the missus and the child.
I'll wear my ten-gallon hat
And I'll twirl my gun

A City runnin' wild!
The sheriff/owner of Wild West City is reported to have died in 1998. He was known for dispensing advice such as "Kids! Use your fingers for guns!"
[Michelle K., 01/21/1999]Another great stop is Wild West City in Netcong, NJ on RT. 206. Wild West City is an authentic reproduction of Dodge City in the 1880's. They have Stage Coach and train rides, gunfights and several small shops and museums.

We recommend a stop at WWC's official web site for two reasons: Hear the embedded Wild West City jingle ("Wild West city, a city runnin' wild!"), and read the pop-up window stating WWC's position on violence and firearms ("...References or portrayals of firearms cannot be eliminated from U.S. history and, from an educational standpoint, Wild West City cannot deny their historical relevance...".
