Space Acorn - UFO Mockup from 1965 Crash Incident

A mockup of a UFO stands behind the Mount Pleasant Township Volunteer Fire Department, recalling a notorious sighting on the night of December 9, 1965. The incident is one that riles up those who suspect continuing government cover-up of UFOs. The alleged crash was investigated by the NASA, and the US Army, and freedom of information activists are still pursuing those long suppressed documents. The Air Force at the time claimed it was a meteorite.

In 1965, locals witnessed soldiers cordoning off the area, and a flatbed truck leaving Kecksburg loaded with an object shaped like an acorn, roughly the size of a Volkswagen bus. The mockup, also referred to as "the UFO monument," was fabricated for the TV show "Unsolved Mysteries" in the 1990s. The Space Acorn features speculative hieroglyphic symbols around its base.

At last report, the town was successful in selling UFO-related merchandise online, and was planning to open a permanent gift shop near the Space Acorn.
