Stopped here on the 2013 northern leg of our "Towns Named Newell" tour. We had a great time in town, but they've taken down the sign declaring it to be the "Sheep Capital."
[Kim Newell, 07/20/2013]About 25 miles north of Sturgis on state route 79 is the town of Newell (pop. 675), the self-proclaimed "Sheep Capital of the U.S." There's really nothing to see there other than the sign welcoming you into town (we basically didn't even slow down while driving through).
