Giant Orange
Frank E. Pohl was the father of Giant Orange stands in Northern California and today only two of his original sixteen stands remain. The Giant Orange stands were constructed between the 1930s and the 1950s.
One of the two last remaining original Pohl Giant Orange stands has been a San Jose City Landmark since 1992. Mark's Hotdogs is a functioning Dive-In in San Jose, California's Alum Rock neighborhood located along the busy South Capitol Avenue thoroughfare and famous throughout the valley as a great place to eat. While I was there I met a customer who has eaten at Marks since 1945!
The only other remaining example of the Pohl chain of Giant Oranges is located along the I-80 Freeway corridor in Dixon, California about 80 miles to the North.
