Corpus Christi, Texas: Car Examining Sculpture

The sculpture is in the same location, but there's a new business in the background. Now sits in front of Nona's Cocina.

My father commissioned this sculpture as an homage to the car sellers who would park their cars on the same spot. By putting the statue there he no longer had to call them and threaten to tow their cars away. Danny O'Dowdy is the artist who created it. It has a steel frame covered with chicken wire and encased in ferro cement.

This sculpture is of a man and a woman buying a car. A former art teacher with CCISD, Rebecca Moore, created this with a friend. I had the wonderful experience of being a student at the time of its creation.

They're not washing the car. It's a couple (not two men) and they're checking it out as if to buy it. He's kicking the tires. She's peering into the windshield.

The car washing sculpture was apparently "for sale" and has moved down the street to 4006 Weber, at the corner of Weber and Staples.
