We happened upon the original chainsaw artist, Ray Murphy, after driving by an interesting carving of a hand holding a lobster. What a treat! At 80+ years old Ray is a hoot and happy to tell tales of his travels and accomplishments. His work is in "Ripley's Believe it or Not" museums worldwide after he started sawing the alphabet on #2 pencils!

This is awesome! Ray is the genuine article and has a terrific talent. Make time for this -- if you're anywhere in the vicinity (we drove an hour to see it and we're not disappointed!). Ray sawed my name into a wooden belt buckle -- while I wore the belt. Our kids loved it and we have some wood-sawed art to take home and display. A definite must on your list!

One of the most unique stage shows, and only show like it in the world. The Chainsaw Sawyer Artist (Reg. Trademark) performs many near impossible feats with chainsaws. You can see Ray saw at least 10 numbers on a toothpick and a chair sawed in 10 seconds. Ray makes two sculptures at the same time using a chainsaw in each hand.
This show is thrilling to watch and very entertaining for the whole family,
[Rema Mitchell, 05/01/2008]Just up Route 1 in Hancock, ME, is the "Wild Mountain Man," a chainsaw carver of all sorts of fabulous things. There's usually a crowd gathered in the parking lot in the summer to watch him carve dolphins, bears, Indians, you name it.
[Mary (Mattila) Cooper, 09/12/1999]The Wild Mountain Man (aka Ray Murphy) wants everyone to know that he's a chainsaw sawyer, not a chainsaw carver, which he considers an oxymoron.
