The post office in Eastland contains a 6-ft. x 10-ft. mural made from over 11,000 stamps. It was completed in 1964 after 7 years of work by then postmaster Marene Johnson-Johnson.
The mural contains a large stamp with the likeness of Ben Franklin made completely out of stamps. It is bordered with roses and greenery, also made out of stamps. It has the United Nations symbol surrounded by stamps of the countries that were members at that time. It has several stamps that Ms. Johnson sent to people to have autographed. Some are signed by presidents, congressmen, and first ladies.
The mural has been valued in the millions.
[Rick Wende, 04/27/2008]"A personal view of history" -- Marene Johnson-Johnson died in 1978. We were told it was World's Largest Stamp mural when we visited.
