Sunny the Sunfish was Missing In Action last week when we were seeking the perfect photo op. A local mom at the grocery store said he had been vandalized recently and was being repaired, after we had spent a good half hour driving around saying it should be right here...

Sunny has returned! The sunfish was taken down for two months of sandblasting and repainting after some morons sprayed it with graffiti. He's back now.

25-foot long Sunny was unveiled in Onalaska in 1998 at the urging of then-mayor Clarence Stellner, whose childhood nickname was "Sunny." The small park where Sunny swims is named in Stellner's honor.

The city of Onalaska, WI claims to be the Sunfish Capital of the World, and we can see why! Looming over Lake Onalaska, Sunny stands 15 feet high and 25 feet long. Onalaska proudly celebrates an annual Sunfish Days, where Sunny is the guest of honor!
