Nevada City,CA: I was born and raised there and the "Firehouse Museum" was a field trip destination in junior high. The rumors of a haunted painting are 50/50; they say it's not true and no one I know from the town even gives it a thought. More interesting in the Firehouse museum is this awesome "Buddhist Shrine" it's beautiful and way more exciting. Also, if you want a haunted building from Nevada City, it would be the old newspaper editor's house at the top of main street that freaked out all us kids growing up. The editor hanged himself there and it was deserted for as long as I know.(It happened like 50 years ago, and is probably a local myth without foundation)
[Jennifer Forga, 12/19/1999]There's a haunted painting in the old fire station and one hell of a long tunnel, about 4 feet high and six miles long that you can yell into or crawl, if you're really daring. Your knees will sure get wet though. Its called the Heller Tunnel at Malakoff Diggins.
