Waffle House Museum
I've been trying to get into the Waffle House Museum and I finally called the HQ and they say that viewings are by appointment only, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 10-2. Also, you cannot get an appointment unless you have a group of 10 or more. So I am curious if anyone else wants to go too, I will arrange an appointment. Dying to go! Email me so I can arrange it! [Jill Veysey, 01/07/2009]It appears Waffle House has regained the property of the original #1. No longer a Chinese Restaurant, it's in the process of renovation. It's coming along quite nicely and should be open in about a month or so.
[Lucy Pfeffa, 05/04/2008]On 6/30/02 I went to visit the Waffle House #1 on College Avenue in Avondale Estates, a suburb of Atlanta. I thought I had found it, and was just about the photograph the plaque on the wall when I noticed that it was actually Waffle House #1,000 (at 2850 College Ave, Avondale Estates, GA). The plaque went on to say that this was unit 1,000, built 50 years after and a few blocks down the street from unit 1. I was bummed to find that #1 had been converted to a Chinese joint, but photographed it anyway, as it was still recognizable as having originally been a Waffle House. The #1 building had no signs, plaques or identifying marks on it to tell the viewer it was once THE original Waffle House.
[auridicyl, 07/06/2002]Decatur, a small city East of Atlanta, is the home of the original Waffle House, on College Avenue (I'm not positive whether it's east or west, but it's going west on the road). It's still in operation, and it's status as a historical "monument" is marked by a plaque outside the building.

A giant development in the world of Waffledom if true. Waffle House No. 1 opened in Avondale Estates in 1955. If this restaurant does add historic exhibits, Waffle House will finally have a permanent place for historical bragging (in 2005, their 50th Anniversary exhibit was hosted at the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta).
