Paul's sidekick Babe will be getting a major renovation starting July 21st, 2008. The renovation should be completed within a month's time. Babe the Blue Ox joined Paul at the now closed Paul Bunyan Amusement Center in the early 1950s.
This Babe statue was created with a steel framework wrapped in fiberglass. The statue has been patched and painted several time throughout the years and is now in need of a more complete overhaul.
Josh Porter of Avalon Studios will be the the artist in charge of the renovation. The plan is to shape and re-coat the entire statue using modern materials. Spray foam and an elastomeric resin topcoat will be used to smooth out Babe's features and seal the statue. This process will give Babe an improved look and provide a maintenance-free statue for years to come.
[Josh Porter, 07/20/2008]Babe was built in 1965 by Jac T. Brown. He's 24 feet long, 15 feet tall, and weighs nearly two tons.
