The Ford Rouge Factory Tour has been vastly improved for 2015, according to a press release that devotes only a couple of lines to the actual, you know, factory tour.
The River Rouge plant is where F-150 pickups are made, and the Factory Tour's high point was always the chance to see the trucks being built on the assembly line. Now, however, most of the emphasis is on a 10-minute multimedia show in the "Manufacturing Innovation Theater." It features a white fiberglass F-150 on a stage, onto which are projected lasers and 3-D mapping images, changing the truck's appearance, making it "come to life" while repurposed assembly line robots entertain the crowd. There are also vibrating seats, blasts of air, and dramatic music. "This is beyond world class," the press release quotes Cynthia Jones, the Tour's general manager.
The factory isn't always in operation, so perhaps the new theater is a way to give disappointed tour-goers something to be excited about.
[Roadsideamerica.com Team, 02/03/2015]Experience a celebration of the innovation of manufacturing in America at the Ford Rouge Factory Tour - where history and technology emerge. This is a really neat attraction. I would highly recommend waiting until production is in process (we missed it).
[girlkrug, 09/02/2008]This is affiliated with The Henry Ford, which is where the tour departs from. When last we checked, the factory was exclusively assembling the F-150 pickup truck.
