New Orleans, Louisiana: Kuyper Cake Collection (In Transition)

150 cakes from around the world are part of the late Frances Kuyper's garage museum, moved from her Pasadena retirement home to New Orleans in late 2012, promised as a permanent Sugar Gallery exhibit; 2016: apparently in storage.

Kuyper Cake Collection: The Kuyper Cake Collection has risen once again! The quaint display of 150 examples of the decorative dessert arts has been displaced many times since Francis Kuyper established the initial exhibit in her Pasadena garage in 1994. [11/07/2012] Complete Story...

Lone cake.

Kuyper Cake Collection

Only one cake display currently exists. It is a circus cake.

[Betty, 09/25/2016]

The museum's more extensive "permanent" exhibit seen in 2013 appears to have shrunk to a lone cake...

Kuyper Cake Collection

The Kuyper Cake Collection was the work of "Cake Lady" Frances Kuyper, who began decorating cakes in the 1950s. It now resides in the Southern Food and Beverage Museum, which is currently in the process of moving to a new location in New Orleans. This large collection of unique and specialty cakes, decorated by Kuyper, was donated to the museum by Susan Holtz, a culinary director in Los Angeles.

[Chris Harmon, 06/15/2013]

Our understanding is that the collection is not of actual cakes -- which would be awfully stale by now -- but of the working cake-art models that were then copied in cake form. Still pretty impressive....

Kuyper Cake Collection/Southern Food and Beverage Museum

I was looking this up to make a visit on an upcoming trip to New Orleans, and it appears that Southern Food and Beverage Museum is temporarily closed while it moves to a new location.

[Lauren Meyers, 06/07/2013]

The Museum closed in mid-March and hopes to reopen at its new address before the end of the year.

Cake Museum
