This boulder is huge! I would hate to not know about this while driving in McLouth, because there are no signs or markers indicating its whereabouts.
[Britt Marley, 12/22/2012]The rock is still there, proud and stately, calling to you. It just begs you to get out of your car and sit on it, stand on it, or walk around it. It is a fun, quirky thing to see. From a distance, it blends in with the roadway, but close up it fools your mind -- is it really a rock in the road? Whoa -- gotta stop and take a look at this. It is in a residential neighborhood and is quite a big bump in the road. Careful at night. It makes you wonder how big it really is down there, below McLouth.

From another angle you can see how big this "glacial erratic" rock in the middle of the road actually is! When we drove up, a big 4x4 dually even had to swerve around to miss it.
[Mike & Susan, 09/26/2009]
Right there in the middle of S. Granite Street at E. Lucy Street is a huge glacial erratic surrounded by asphalt. When the town was being laid out the contractor was unable to dislodge the granite erratic deposited 10,000 years ago by a receding glacier. Since the glacial erratic could not be removed they simply paved around it and left it in situ in the middle of the street.
There are no warning signs so be careful when driving down the street and don't take it for granite!
