Ten tons of fiberglass seems like a stretch of a claim, though Gus is imposingly big. Toppled by Hurricane Michael in 2018, but restored quickly.

Big Gus sits outside of Angelo's Steak Pit in Panama City Beach. He was one of my many stops during a visit to Florida. Easy parking and simple jump over a split rail fence allows you to have your picture taken with Gus and even pretend to pick his enormous nostrils.

That "20,000 pound" figure has been kicking around for decades (we first photographed Big Gus in 1997), although he's too big to conveniently stand on a scale to verify.
