Directions:: East of town, on the south side of US Hwy 30/Joliet St., just west of the intersection of Northwinds Drive. About 1.5 miles west of the intersection of US Hwy 41. Use the parking lot across the highway on Northwinds Drive.
Hours:: Covered up in Fall and Winter. Local health policies may affect hours and access.

Monument To "The Ideal Section" Of The Lincoln Highway

This was called the highway of the future in 1921; worthy of a monument. The claim-to-fame was justified, as most modern highways look like this one. The monument was restored in 2016, and is covered in Fall and Winter to keep salt off the tablets.

Some arses have stolen all the plaques.

The plaques weren't stolen; they're being refurbished at the Dyer Historical Museum (you can visit them there) by the Indiana Lincoln Highway Association. Until they're returned this will be the Less-Than-Ideal Section of the Lincoln Highway.

Monument To "The Ideal Section" Of The Lincoln Highway

The monument can be difficult to see in the winter because they plow the snow on the side of the road. It is on a very busy street and it is best to view it from across the street, or park across the street and carefully make a mad dash across four lanes of traffic.
