Amboy, California: Roy's Cafe Motel: Famous Sign
Route 66 stop of days gone by, currently under restoration. Its neon sign -- restored in 2019 -- is the tallest thing for miles, and claims to be the most photographed on Route 66. Surrounding ghost town has an arty, post-apocalyptic vibe.

Roy's Motel & Cafe
Roy's is located only about 100 yards from the shoe tree along Route 66 in Amboy, CA. First opened in the 1930's, Roy's was once a busy stop during the golden age of Route 66 in the 50's and 60'a, but has since seen better days. Good news is they now have gas available and a small gift shop inside that sells drinks and snacks and other neat memorabilia. I was happy that they had coke in glass bottles for sale! The motel (located next to the gas station) has a nice fresh coat of paint; I've heard that the new owner has plans to reopen it soon.
