Many years ago, a small town was obtaining its very own post office. Although the service was arriving, the powers that be did not want the United Postal Service named after the name of the town at that time, which was "Old Naked Joe." So they decided to change the town's name to "Old Joe," which exists today, although the Post Office does not.
There are two stories that have circulated concerning the old town's name. First, it was possibly named because there was an old man that lived on the tall mountain here named Old Joe who enjoyed to run around nude. The second is that many years ago, a tornado came through and stripped the top of Old Naked Joe Mountain of every tree and bush.
I do not know our present population, but it may help to know that there are more chickens that reside here than humans.
