In peak summer travel season, the large Trees of Mystery parking lot is usually packed with cars and RVs, the busiest roadside attraction along the Redwood Highway. It's a stark contrast in December, when traffic and vacationers drop to a trickle. But that's a smart time to visit if you can arrive between the region's copious rain storms. You'll have the Tall Tale Trail and freak redwood trees pretty much to yourself.
In December, Trees of Mystery's gift shop and entrance are decorated for the holidays, and the giant talking Paul Bunyan might act as a proxy Santa and have a chat regarding your naughty/nice status.

Fun for everyone. Pet friendly and the Sky Trail is not to be missed. Reasonable admission costs.

There is a hidden guy who speaks for Paul Bunyan...he talks to all of the guests through a loud speaker in the mouth of the statue. My 5-year-old is a believer.

Paul's business arm has fallen off!
