I was 17 when the One-Eyed Purple People Eater was painted. My mother, Shirley Fowler, was the one who painted it back in 1982, and purple is her favorite color. She was working in the oilfields at the time. Today she is 86 years young and I'm still surprised that no one has painted over it or touched it up.

The Purple People Eater is still there. Not taken care of.

It's still there! Although a little rustier.

Today I came across such a strange little sculpture! He appeared to be some kind of gas thingy that we see so often on the side of the road....only he was purple and kinda creepy! His nose hung down; his teeth were misaligned; and he even had a tiny little bow tie below his chin. How unusual, I thought. Then I drove a little further to see the other side of him and discovered he'd been given a name! THE PURPLE PEOPLE EATER! Oh, was I scared!
