Gilboa, New York: World's Oldest Trees?
Nine fossilized trees, lying on the ground in a neat outdoor row, next an information kiosk beside a road. Scientists say that the trees are at least 300 million years old.

- Take Route 990V east from Route 30, go over the Schoharie Creek Bridge. The fossil exhibit will on the left, next to the highway, just before you reach the Town Hall/Post Office. Informational kiosk on site, and friendly folks in the municipal building.

The oldest tree fossils in the world are located in the mountains of upstate New York. 380 million years ago Gilboa was a tropical paradise on the shore of the Devonian Sea. In 1850 the first of many tree stump fossils were discovered here; 9 are on display next to the building that serves as the post office - courthouse - town hall.
