Great Flood of 1934 marker.

Monument to the Deadly Montrose Flood

Located at the NW corner of Fairway Ave. and Rosemont Ave., this small monument sits in a small suburban neighborhood that has had its fair share of terrifying mudslides.

[Scott McGee, 01/18/2016]

The Great Flood hit Montrose just after midnight on New Year's Day 1934, engulfing American Legion Post 288 at this site, where 12 of 45 flood victims were killed. The monument mentions the flood channels behind the monument, added in 1938 as part of a LA-wide channel network improvement project to make sure the disaster wouldn't be repeated.
