Sculpted from life by Hughlette "Tex" Wheeler. The race horse that no one expected to win (but did) helped unveil the statue himself in February 1941. As an underdog, he attracted devoted fans who normally cared nothing about horse racing, and retired in 1940 as the most famous horse in the world.
