Palm Springs, California: Statue of Sonny Bono
Sculpted in bronze, the grinning statue sits on the edge of a fountain and depicts the older, mayor-of-Palm-Springs Sonny, not the younger, "I Got You Babe" Sonny. Highly burnished legs hint that Sonny is still loved. Emmanuil Snitkovsky sculpted the work, dedicated in 2001.

Bono was killed in a 1998 skiing accident during his second term in the US Congress. He was elected mayor of Palm Springs in 1988 (the bronze sitting at the fountain depicts that era Sonny), but the celebrity politician may be forever remembered for his earlier TV stint on the comedy-variety "Sonny and Cher Show."
