San Pedro, California: Monument to a Union Boss
Two San Pedro longshoremen were killed on July 5, 1934, "Bloody Thursday," when police fired into a group of workers on strike. Inspired by their deaths, Harry Bridges founded the International Longshoremen Workers Union, and was honored by a bronze bust atop an eight-foot-tall monument that cost $130,000.

- I-110 south until it ends and becomes Hwy 47. Take the first exit onto Harbor Blvd. Drive south a little over a half-mile. The monument is on the east side of Harbor Blvd, in John S. Gibson Jr. Park, at the corner of 5th St.
