Sonoma, California: Gravity Hill

Put your car in neutral here and watch yourself be pulled backwards, uphill. But don't block traffic, and bring someone along to warn oncoming cars.

Address:: 3448 Lichau Rd, Sonoma, CA
Directions:: US 101 exit onto the Rohnert Park Expy. Drive east until it ends, turn right onto Petaluma Hill Rd, make the third left onto Roberts Rd, then the first right onto Lichau Rd. After you pass Cannon Rd (which veers left) you'll come to the crest of a hill. Just over it is a cattle guard across the road. Drive about 100 feet further (to the No Parking sign) and put your car in neutral.
Hours:: Public road. Hazard flashers recommended. Use at your own risk. Local health policies may affect hours and access.

Gravity Hill

This used to be an awesome place where, if you put your car in neutral, your car would actually roll uphill at a gradually increasing speed (5-10 mph). But when the road was repaved several years ago it leveled the area, and it no longer works -- to the disappointment of many. Not worth the drive as the feature has been eliminated when the road was repaved.

Some gravity hills are not as convincing as others. But we hesitate recommending that you travel farther to try those!
