The Tepee

Great modern example of the classic roadside attraction. Quite historic actually. The people and the food here are fantastic, I really can't say enough. Real Rte. 20 goodness, try Teepee Pete's chili! Make time to talk to these nice folks!

The Tepee

This is a small but personal shop. You walk in and they greet you warmly and always seem interested as to what made you stop. My three kids look forward to every trip to N.Y just to stop at the Tepee, many times a year for the last 7 years. The thought of them jeopardizing this landmark with a visitors center is sad. There's plenty of space down the road instead. Why ruin a great place with a spectacular view.

The Tepee

The tepee-shaped Tepee souvenir shop is now threatened by the possible construction of an official state visitor information center across the street. This center would ruin the panoramic view enjoyed by the Tepee and the concession, Pete's Chow Wagon (which has pretty good chow indeed). Pete has been asking for signatures to petition to stop the proposed construction. Now you have a good excuse to stop and visit!

I have friends who come from Europe a few times a year. We go from Albany to the lovely Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Monastery in Jordanville, NY, which leads us on Route 20W through Cherry Valley.

On the way back from the monastery we stop at the Cherry Valley TeePee for the best homemade chile. At times they have venison and elk chile too. Plus a hot sauce among the best around. Friends from Mexico always look forward to their hot sauce so it has become quite a tradition since the new owners took over. I purchase gifts there for relatives in Germany at Christmastime too. Nice selection.
